Noelle: Lost Soul
So, since last devlog I worked on next demo for testers. Many of new features are quality of life. However, I added achievements and even abilitty to set resolution! There are still some things needed to be done before I can release the demo, so please patience.
Frustration over the multi-noise and speed of development
Last week was kinda hard. I hate the way 1.18 handles biomes (its great system for vanilla, but its terrible for modding). Basically its super easy to understand how it works, while being super hard to actually use, not even talking about the fact that mcreator makes it harder. I was actually (and sometimes still am) thinking about cancelling the mod altogether, not just becouse of multi-noise, but also becouse of the fact development is slow and I want to work on other things like RPGs. However I will not cancel it, I told myself this will be first project I finish (which wont since Lost Soul will be finished sooner).
Resolution to my problem
Well, I decided to delve into the dark magic of github cloning and decided to edit mcreator itself to make it easier (well, easier than now, but not easy) to edit biomes. Since I got some knowlidge of java (for a gods sake I am making a fangame in it XD) I think I might understand what to edit, after all, how hard it can be (I am sure I will regret saying this). However thats not only resolution to my problems. Second is actually sacrificing/moving some content...
Biome Sacrifices
It has come to this. In order to have the biomes at least a little bit balanced. I need to do some trimming. So this is what is going to happen to biomes:
-Dunes ---> Getting removed
-Shrubland ---> Getting removed
-Forest Highlands/Midlands ---> Will be merged/stay
-Soggy forest ---> Getting removed
-Frosted Valley ---> Stays
-Terracotta plains ---> Stays
-Deep Forest ---> Stays
-Magmatic desert ---> Maybe moves to nether/getting removed
-Arctic Plains ---> For now removed, maybe returns later as cave biome
-Rainforest ---> Stays
-Chestnut forest ---> Stays
-Snowy chestnut forest ---> Getting removed
-Mushroom grotto ---> For now removed, maybe returns later as Nimbus biome
-Dead rainforest ---> Getting removed
-Cold valley ---> Getting removed
-Erupted Ocean ---> For now removed, maybe returns later as cave biome
This from 16 biomes trimms the number to 6. A lot easyer to manage (well still too hard)
Well, I hope I will be able to edit mcreator to suit my needs, it will surely be hard to do so (not even talking about getting the commit accepted into official branch) Do not expect july to be super productive due to this. Well, I hope I have some good news next month.
