Well, I haven't posted here in a while.

In this devlog:

  • Game development

  • So what happens now?

Noelle: Lost Soul progress

It is an estabilished tradition of me bringing bad news each year, BUT NOT THIS ONE.

I began working on Lost Soul in 2022, almost 18 months ago and I can proudly say, that after all this time, the release is closer than ever again.

At the time of writting this, Lost Soul is feature complete! Yes, the game is essentially complete. I have some last bugfixes to make, but one super hard task is still before me and that is performance. During the development Lost Soul suffered insane performance degradation. My last Lost Soul goal is to fix these issues after which the game will enter a beta-test period which will last few weeks... then the game releases! Yes, the game releases in early 2025! (Hopefully before chapters 3/4 release)

These are exciting times and I can't wait to have this gargartuan project behind me. (Mostly so I can take up another one.)

A part of the intro, now remade.

Where have I been?

You might have noticed that this year was a quiet one. There were multiple reasons for this and if you have read my last devlog, you know exactly what I mean.

2024 was an important year, since I was finishing the primary school (no, I am not that young, different school system here, I am an adult) and beginning high school (college for comparison).

There also wasn't any need to talk about stuff, since DLC Collection was dropped as a project and Evil Architect... I'll get to that one later. My only public project is Eternal Nights and except updates to newer MC versions, its not like any content is getting added there. Oh right... and I made that one boss compilation video for my YT channel. Oh right and I also worked a lot on my private minecraft SMP and began playing DnD as a Dungeonmaster, which is also sucking a lot of my time.

School is taking a lot of my free time, but it's not like I wasn't free for like half of this year so what other stuff I was doing?

Minecraft modding

Last year, when I scrapped DLC Collection (from now on DLCC), I announced a project called Enigmatic Chronicles (from now on EC) which was supossed to be DLCC's spritual successor.

So what happenned to this project? I actually began working on it like a month ago, but it really didn't get anywhere. I tried remaking Chestnut Forest at better quality than DLCC. I didn't get far.

New chestnut trees
Placeholder biomes, for now with placeholder trees

As you can see it's not much. I also got a taste what I used to hate with minecraft modding. So, will EC actually become a thing? Or is it just another lost cause?

Game development

At the start of the summer, I released a demo for a little game known as Evil Architect (which was also my finals project). My intention was to continue this project and make it into a full game, but a few troubles with the game design poped up and then I was met with a choice.

I could either continue working on it and fix the gameplay, however it wouldn't be the kind of a game I would love playing/making.

Or I could cancel the game before it even was a real thing.

And just like that, 7 months of work went into nothing... was it really nothing? Not really I got a ton of skills during it's development.

Evil Architect in all of its glory

As you may know, I always planned to get into game development and this didn't change, even after this disaster. I am not sure if it will happen this year or the next one, but for some time, I had a concept for a new game laying around. Back in 2023 I even made a small... program? to test something out.

So what happens now?

You may have noticed a them through the post. Too many projects and not enough time. I myself have still not come to a decission what to exactly do, but I am lately beginning to lean to one of the options.

Lost Soul - This project is almost done and as I said, it's coming soon.

Personal stuff (MC SMP, DnD, etc.) - I can't really cancel any of these.

School - Can't cancel this one either duh.

So it came to this, under butcher's axe, we find Enigmatic Chronicles and my new unnanounced game. And honestly I am not fully sure which one will take the bullet. I want to make both. To be fully honest, I don't really have time for either of these, since my personal stuff and school don't really allow me to.

As I said last year, I really... really want to make Enigmatic Chronicles, but that mod can wait. I can't promise to ever make it, but it would be incredible if I was able to do it.

When it comes to the game, I will probably start working on it during this year, not sure when you'll see the first screenshots/info.

This doesn't mean Enigmatic Chronicles can't happen this year, nothing except Lost Soul is really set in stone.

So we're ending on a big fat

Now seriously, what CAN you expect from this lil' me this year? I am happy for anyone who stuck around through the hiatus and I don't think I can afford another one.

  • Lost Soul releasing early 2025

  • Some youtube content??? Yep, once Lost Soul releases, I am planning to make a video or two about it's development, revealing scrapped stuff, how the game works under the hood and so on. I might even make some videos about DLC Collection and my other projects (maybe even a little look onto my private SMP and my work there)

  • Eternal night ports to newer minecraft versions

So here's to a potentially exciting year! Happy new year everyone!
